Fixed Glass Removal and Installation

Overview

Removal and installation of any fixed glass involves several steps and should be performed with the corresponding tools and in the proper order.

Removal

1. Safety

a. Wear safety gear including gloves and eye protection

b. Ensure vehicle is on a flat surface and secured from movement

2. Interior Trim

a. Remove the interior trim around the windshield or windows, including any moldings, weatherstrips, or panels

3. Exterior Trim

a. Carefully remove any exterior trim or moldings

4. Cutting Sealant

a. Using a windshield knife or cutting tool, cut through the urethane sealant that holds the windshield or glass in place

b. Use precision and patience to avoid damaging the vehicle or frame

5. Removal

a. With sealant cut, carefully remove glass

b. If a windshield employee assistance to ensure a smooth and controlled removal

6. Clean the area

a. Clean any remaining adhesive or debris from the windshield frame to ensure a proper seal for the new windshield.
