Test Welds

Perform test welds on scrap metal or I-CAR coupons.
Setup the following test welds:
- 8mm plug weld
- 30mm lap (fillet) weld
- 30mm open butt joint weld
- 30mm butt joint with a backer weld
Practice tuning your welder for the various steel thicknesses to ensure proper weld penetration.
Using a vise and clamps, tear out the plug weld, and destructively test the others. No failures of the welds should occur in the weld joint itself.
Perform practice welds prior to the first weld on a vehicle.
