Champions Change a Southern California Veteran’s Life

At the start of the new year, a small act of generosity made a life-changing difference for one Southern California veteran, and it was powered by teamwork, compassion, and a shared commitment to giving back.

On January 20, the Crash Champions San Bernardino team partnered with NABC Recycled Rides® and Allstate to present a refurbished 2021 Honda Civic to Kevin James, a U.S. Navy veteran, during a fundraising event at Desert Willow Golf Resort. The donation wasn’t just about a car, it was about restoring independence and opening the door to new opportunities.

After serving a tour in Lebanon, James faced a difficult transition to civilian life. He battled mental health challenges and PTSD, struggled to maintain steady employment, and eventually experienced homelessness. His turning point came through U.S. Vets, a nonprofit organization that supports homeless and at-risk veterans, which helped him regain stability and begin rebuilding his life.

“This vehicle will change our lives in ways we can’t fully express,” James shared at the event. “What looks like a car is actually freedom and relief for my family. We now have dependable transportation for work, school, and everyday needs that so many others take for granted.”

For the San Bernardino Crash Champions team, the moment was a powerful reminder of the impact that skilled work and community partnerships can have beyond the shop floor. By donating their time and expertise, the team helped turn a challenging chapter into a hopeful new beginning.

As we move forward into 2026, stories like Kevin’s remind us that real change happens when people come together with purpose. We’re proud of our San Bernardino Champions and grateful to our partners at NABC Recycled Rides®, Allstate, and U.S. Vets for helping make moments like this possible.
